I've been in the hospital with my son since Thursday. Before you ask: all is well with him. He had bone cancer in 2008, and he needed a prosthesis. As a result, he now needs a 'leg extension' on a regular basis. As long as his healthy leg grows, he'll need operations to make the other leg 'match'. The surgery went well. If it weren't for the fact that he has to get antibiotics intravenously until next Tuesday, he'd be allowed to go home. Of course: he'll be in a wheelchair for a while. After such an operation, the muscles in his leg are stretched making it impossible for him to bend his leg...

As usual, you can find the changelogs on the itextpdf.com site, but let's also describe in words what has changed: iText 5.3.0 A short while ago, the Bouncy Castle Crypto API was upgraded from 1.46 to 1.47. This upgrade was a major one: we had to change all the iText code related to digital signatures. We took a couple of months to test this new code and during this time, we found and fixed many migration problems; we hope we caught them all. While we were at it, we decided to completely reengineer the way iText...

IMPORTANT: All 5.2.x versions have been removed from our servers because of a serious flaw that was introduced when dealing with large PDFs! I'm preparing to teach an iText class in Paris, and to give some demo's in Oakland . I'm currently making a new set of examples for some new chapters I'm going to write (maybe a third book, not a revision of the second edition, but a book with some advanced topics). Whilst making examples to explain the different options available in XML Worker, I found some bugs and I also...

IMPORTANT: All 5.2.x versions have been removed from our servers because of a serious flaw that was introduced when dealing with large PDFs! We announced a new iText release for March, but as 2012 is a leap year, we decided to release on February 29th. Otherwise we'd have to wait for another four years before we have the chance to release on such a special day. The previous release was iText 5.1.3 (dated 11-11-11, another special day) and we've been working with iText 5.1.4-SNAPSHOT for a long time now, but eventually we decided not to release a version 5.1.4, but to skip to...

Today we've published a new release of iText and XML Worker. These new releases are right in time to be presented at Devoxx, the biggest Java conference in Europe. Don't forget to drop by for a chat at the iText booth! iText iText 5.1.3 brings the long awaited support for PAdES-LTV. Examples on how to use this functionality that will be part of the upcoming PDF-2 standard will be following soon. We've also improved the code for parsing PDFs for images. It can now be done using much less code than before. We've added support for JavaScript when parsing bookmarks to XML (or...
Maintenance release of iText; change in architecture for XML Worker. iText 5.1.2 In this release, we've added functionality that allows you to completely remove an optional content layer (OCG). However: iText 5.1.2 is mainly a maintenance release that fixes a series of bugs reported on this list since June 8: the algorithm to find startxref was made more memory efficient; the height of the Image wasn't taken into account when creating a PdfPCell with an Image (this is a bug that was introduced in...
iText® XML Worker is no longer in beta. You can now start using XML Worker 1.0.0 in a production environment to create PDF files using HTML created using CKEditor or TinyMCE as input. We're simultaneously releasing iText 5.1.1 because XML Worker 1.0.0 depends on some new functionality that was added to iText. For a full overview of what has changed, please consult the changelog .
It was more work than expected, but we've finally released iText 5.1.0 . The core iText® library The first change that jumps to the eye, is that we no longer release "just the jar". You can now download a zip file containing several jars at SourceForge . The most important jars are those with the binaries: itextpdf-5.1.0.jar and itext-xtra-5.1.0.jar. Note that we've split iText in two parts: the core library and extra functionality. In the future, we'll provide even more...

The most substantial changes are in the HTMLWorker functionality. Some new features were added, but most of all: the code has been rewritten to make it easier to extend. This will allow us to support more tags and styles soon (in iText 5.1.0). We also have a new core developer, Balder Van Camp, who is screening the code, optimizing performance and reducing the memory use. He has also moved the resources (such as font metrics) from the source code directories into a separate folder. More code reorganizations will follow in iText 5.1.0. Of course, iText 5.0.6 brings plenty of fixes of bugs...
