pdfXfa is the successor to XFA Worker. It allows you to process and finalize dynamic forms by automating form filling and later flattening for easy use and security. pdfXFA offers all of the same functionality as XFA Worker, but also offers a convenient API. To get started with pdfXFA, read on! Load your License Key Before we begin we'll need to load the license file. This is done using our license key library. Make sure to use version 2 and higher. These version are meant to be used in tandem with iText 7 products, while versions 1.x.y are meant to be used with iText 5. LicenseKey....
Last week there was a huge buzz surrounding SHA-1. The hashing algorithm has been deemed unsafe for many years, but is still used in outdated software for digital signatures. Recently a team of researchers was able to break SHA-1, proving definitively that the algorithim should be replaced . The attack was orchestrated on a PDF file that contained an image, which they exploited to generate a collision. A collision can be quite scary as it allows an attacker to generate two files that have the same digest value. If a victim was to sign one of these files using SHA-1, the signed digest would be...

A small country with big ideas, Belgium is the birthplace of the saxophone, the Mercator projection and the combustion engine, but key contributions to the digital space such as Drupal, the jpeg format, and even the World Wide Web have Belgian origins. And let's not forget iText: we have Belgian roots too. That's why iText is one of the sponsors of the Belgian mission to South by Southwest (SXSW) organized by startups.be and Morning Glory , co-sponsored by Jack ,...
Last week, we created a poll on Twitter , asking you which platform you prefer: The Java platform, The .NET platform, or Another platform These were the results: It seems that the Java platform is the most popular among developers who follow us on Twitter: half of them prefer the Java platform. Looking at the questions posted on StackOverflow, I would have guessed that the numbers would be more in balance, because it feels as if there are about as many questions about iText for Java as there are as about iText for C#. Maybe we...

pdfDebug is an add on component that is available for iText 7. Its basic function is to allow a programmer to see inside of a PDF while it is being created. This allows for advanced debugging on programs that use iText to create or manipulate PDFs. Interested? Let’s take a look at how it works with an example. To start, we created a simple program whose goal is to create a pdf that has four pages, with one phrase on each page. Page 1: Hello World, Page 2: Hello People, Page 3: Hello Everyone. In addition, we want the headers Item 1, Item 2, or Item 3 depending on the page which it appears on...

PDF Day Australia Image
Some of the iText team was part of the first PDF Day event in Australia. Besides enjoying our time down under, we were really impressed with the quality of the attendees and the event organization by the PDF Association. We and our partner MDS gave the event three thumbs up. (Left: Tony Van den Zegel - Director of Sales, APAC for iText, Middle: Sunny Long - Managing Director of MDS Pacific, Right: Raf Hens - Director, Product Management for iText) The event focused on the topics of archiving and accessibility. Our own Director of Product Management, Raf Hens, gave a talk on accessibility, on...
Last week we spent some time at DevoxxBE. Thanks for such a great show. We had fun with the iText minifigs and appreciated all of the great questions that were discussed in our booth. There are so many great ways that devs are using iText, and we love hearing about it. It was also a big event for two of our devs, Benoit and Michael, who filled an ENTIRE ROOM with their talk "Oops, I broke my API". If you want to join the fanclub, you can watch it from the comfort of your own home , or at the Hackerspace conference “Newline...
