iText at Devoxx US
We are back and recuperated from Devoxx US in San Jose, CA. Although we are regulars at some of the Devoxx events, we were happy to attend the first US version. Our minifigs worked hard to set up a fun experience this year. We had our first ever iText photobooth at the event, and it was a hit. If you want to see all of our photobooth pictures you can check them out on our Facebook page . We also had a popular raffle for some lego sets, that had some pretty happy winners. All in all, we had a great time talking PDF with you...
pdf2Data
Pdf2Data is a tool that allows for structured data to be extracted from similarly structured text documents. The way that this is done is through the use of rules to define the location of text that should be extracted or the format of the text. Through the rest of this blog post I’ll describe the basics of how it works and then show how it works with a simple example. To begin, let's look at how the rules are defined to choose the text you would like extracted. You can define the areas with either, the pdf2Data web app, or with Adobe reader's comment feature. Once you have selected the area...
iText Software is pleased to announce the release of iText 14, our latest product that is twice as fast as iText 7! The talented developers at iText have been tirelessly coding to create our best product yet. iText 14 includes a new, faster code base called Boomswitch and a new group of add-ons, that are sure to meet your wildest dreams. The Boomswitch functionality is the core of what makes iText 14 twice as fast as iText 7, by making the code run faster by any factor requested by the client. iText developer Benoit Lagae tell us, “Boomswitch allows us to quickly adapt to customer...
This is a hotfix release on top of iText for .NET 7.0.2; they are functionally identical, except that the following blocking issue was fixed: ASP.NET users reported the following sequence of fatal exceptions when using iText for .NET 7.0.2 in their web applications: System.TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'iText.IO.Util.ResourceUtil' threw an exception. System.NotSupportedException: The invoked member is not supported in a dynamic assembly. The cause of this was a functional change in 7.0.2 to allow loading of certain resources in dependencies, but this change did not...

What does a boat, a baby, marketing technology and PDF have in common? The Cafe des Belges booth at SXSW 2017. The Café des Belges booth was a Belgian delegation, brought together by Startups.be, a great partner of ours. The delegation included 10 Belgian companies this year, in a café format. Our menu included a little of each of these innovative Belgian companies: Jack , Look , ONAK , Sentiance , Muuselabs...
HTML to PDF with pdfHTML
pdfHTML: A brief introduction Register for our webinar on March 22nd for an in depth intro with some of iText's developers. Introduction pdfHTML is an iText 7 add-on that will replace our previous XML Worker, from iText 5. This add-on gives you the ability to transform HTML and CSS content into a PDF document. In the iText 5 XML Worker the number of tags and CSS declarations supported were limited to a subset of most the frequently used tags and properties for PDF. There was no support for video, sound, control and...

We are headed to Documation again this year, and are looking forward to talking about how to improve document processes with iText. Documation takes place in Paris from March 29-March 30, 2017 and covers the full spectrum of document and content management needs. We have a few notable items in store for Documation attendees. Our own Benoit Lagae and Michael Demey will be giving a talk entitled “Lost and Found: Data and the document lifecycle” at 9h30 in Atelier 4 on March 30th and our newest team member Nicolas Ploix, who covers France as part of...

pdfXFA flatten dynamic forms
pdfXFA is the successor to XFA Worker. It allows you to process and finalize dynamic forms by automating form filling and later flattening for easy use and security. pdfXFA offers all of the same functionality as XFA Worker, but also offers a convenient API. To get started with pdfXFA, read on! Load your License Key Before we begin we'll need to load the license file. This is done using our license key library. Make sure to use version 2 and higher. These version are meant to be used in tandem with iText 7 products, while versions 1.x.y are meant to be used with iText 5. LicenseKey....
Last week there was a huge buzz surrounding SHA-1. The hashing algorithm has been deemed unsafe for many years, but is still used in outdated software for digital signatures. Recently a team of researchers was able to break SHA-1, proving definitively that the algorithim should be replaced . The attack was orchestrated on a PDF file that contained an image, which they exploited to generate a collision. A collision can be quite scary as it allows an attacker to generate two files that have the same digest value. If a victim was to sign one of these files using SHA-1, the signed digest would be...
pdfDebug is an add on component that is available for iText 7. Its basic function is to allow a programmer to see inside of a PDF while it is being created. This allows for advanced debugging on programs that use iText to create or manipulate PDFs. Interested? Let’s take a look at how it works with an example. To start, we created a simple program whose goal is to create a pdf that has four pages, with one phrase on each page. Page 1: Hello World, Page 2: Hello People, Page 3: Hello Everyone. In addition, we want the headers Item 1, Item 2, or Item 3 depending on the page which it appears on...
