Documation takes place in Paris from March 29-March 30, 2017 and covers the full spectrum of document and content management needs. We have a few notable items in store for Documation attendees. Last week there was a huge buzz surrounding SHA-1. The hashing algorithm has been deemed unsafe for many years, but is still used in outdated software for digital signatures. Recently a team of researchers was able to break SHA-1, proving definitively that the algorithim should be replaced . The attack was orchestrated on a PDF file that contained an image, which they exploited to generate a collision. A collision can be quite scary as it allows an attacker to generate two files that have the same digest value. If a victim was to sign one of these files using SHA-1, the signed digest would be...

Recap of iText at DevoxxBE 2016
Last week we spent some time at DevoxxBE. Thanks for such a great show. We had fun with the iText minifigs and appreciated all of the great questions that were discussed in our booth. There are so many great ways that devs are using iText, and we love hearing about it. It was also a big event for two of our devs, Benoit and Michael, who filled an ENTIRE ROOM with their talk "Oops, I broke my API". If you want to join the fanclub, you can watch it from the comfort of your own home , or at the Hackerspace conference “Newline” in Ghent next April. The...

We left our hearts in San Francisco. After a great week of sessions, exhibits, meetings, events and fun, the iText team is heading home from JavaOne. Our very own Bruno Lowagie and Raf Hens had a great talk "Oops I broke my API" about the reasons to break backwards compatibility, and when it makes sense. We had lots of great conversations in our booth with current users and new friends alike. Our minifigs had a great time making new friends, and heading off to their new homes...
Many people all over the world have already experienced the magic of our minifigs at events and shows. Today, we're proud to introduce our superfigs, super-sized models of our traditional iText goodies. Each one of our offices has a superfig: the girl resides in Belgium, the boy with the blue cap is located in Singapore and the boy with the orange cap lives in Boston. But they lack names! That's where you come in. Whether you are a longtime iText user, a new customer or someone who is part of the wider PDF community, you can vote on the final names of our superfigs. To vote,...
As you have probably noticed by now, we have recently released iText 7 , a new major version of our flagship library, which is not backwards compatible to iText 5. This technical blog post will focus a bit more on the reasons why we chose to rewrite iText 7 from scratch and will also detail our roadmap for the near future. Reasons While we were always pretty happy with the capabilities of iText as they stood, there were a number of design choices that limited our wiggling room for further development. Over the years, a number...
