Launched in December 2009 to supersede iText 2, it is an open-source PDF tool that represented a giant leap in programmable PDF technology and fuelled the growth of iText Software as a company.
Advantages of the iText 5 core library
Versatile library with comprehensive support for PDF functionality.
High-level API for convenient document creation and manipulation.
Low-level API for flexible and advanced PDF development.
Limited support and bug fixes
Until December 31, 2017 we can still deliver iText 5 licenses to customers who cannot yet migrate to iText 7. In addition, we will continue to support and provide bug fixes for iText 5 until 2018.
iText 5 also forms the core of XML Worker, which lets you convert XML to PDF, as well as iText RUPS, a tool that lets you visualize your PDF documents' syntax and content streams.
Better version available: iText 7
Please note that since the introduction of iText 7, we recommend customers to use iText 7 for new projects, and to consider moving existing projects from iText 5 to iText 7 to benefit from the many improvements in the latest release.
iText 5 Suite includes
iText 5 Core
The core library that allows you to create, process and edit PDF documents.
While iText 5 already gained fame as one of the world's most widely used and documented SDKs for adding rich PDF functionalities to applications, iText 7 has upped the ante. It offers the following advantages over iText 5:
Superior performance: the perfect technology for high-volume document projects.
Easier PDF program creation and editing through a greatly improved document model, lay-out engine, and APIs.
